Jamaica 3,500-Ton Cold Storage Project | Frozen Food Cold Chain Warehouse
Case Details
The Jamaica 3,500-Ton Low-Temperature Cold Storage Project is a large-scale frozen food warehousing facility designed for professional cold chain logistics and the storage of fish, seafood, meat, and other temperature-sensitive frozen products.
Located in Jamaica, the cold storage facility covers approximately 3,000 m² with a building height of 8 meters and provides a total storage capacity of approximately 3,500 tons. The project was completed within a construction period of approximately 90 days.
The cold warehouse operates at a design temperature range of -18°C to -25°C, providing stable low-temperature conditions for the long-term preservation and distribution of frozen products.
The project combines high-performance thermal insulation, reliable industrial refrigeration equipment, a direct expansion refrigeration system, hot gas defrost technology, and an efficient warehouse logistics configuration to create a complete frozen food cold chain storage solution.

Designed for Frozen Food Cold Chain Logistics
The customer’s core business includes cold chain logistics and professional refrigerated warehousing services for fish, seafood, meat, and other frozen food products.
Maintaining a continuous and stable low-temperature environment is essential for preserving frozen product quality throughout storage and distribution. The warehouse temperature is therefore maintained between -18°C and -25°C, providing suitable conditions for commercial frozen food preservation.
With an internal height of 8 meters, the cold storage facility makes efficient use of vertical warehouse space and supports high-density storage operations. Electric forklifts are used for pallet handling, loading, unloading, and internal product movement, improving logistics efficiency within the refrigerated warehouse.
150 mm Cold Room Insulation System
To meet the thermal insulation requirements of low-temperature storage, the project uses 150 mm thick cold room insulated panels.
The high-performance insulation enclosure minimizes heat transfer between the warehouse interior and the external environment, helping maintain stable storage temperatures and reduce unnecessary refrigeration load.
Properly sealed panel joints, cold room doors, and connection areas further improve the airtightness of the refrigeration space.
The insulation system provides an important foundation for efficient and reliable operation of the entire frozen storage facility.
Reliable Industrial Refrigeration Equipment
The refrigeration system is equipped with compressors supplied by internationally recognized compressor manufacturers, providing reliable performance for continuous low-temperature operation.
Refrigeration equipment is selected according to the cold storage volume, product load, target temperature, local climatic conditions, and daily warehouse operating requirements.
The system is designed to provide stable refrigeration capacity while maintaining the required storage temperature throughout the facility.
Direct Expansion Refrigeration System
The project adopts a Direct Expansion (DX) refrigerant supply system.
In a DX refrigeration system, refrigerant expands directly through the evaporator, where it absorbs heat from the refrigerated space. This configuration provides efficient heat exchange, relatively simple system architecture, and responsive temperature control.
Direct expansion refrigeration is widely used in commercial and industrial cold storage applications because of its reliable operation and flexible system configuration.
Hot Gas Defrost System
The evaporators use a hot gas defrost system to remove frost accumulated on the evaporator coils.
During low-temperature operation, moisture in the air can freeze on the evaporator surface and gradually reduce heat transfer efficiency. Hot gas defrost uses high-temperature refrigerant gas from the refrigeration system to melt accumulated frost quickly and efficiently.
Compared with conventional electric defrost in suitable large-scale refrigeration applications, hot gas defrost can provide fast defrosting, reduce unnecessary electrical heating demand, and support efficient continuous cold storage operation.
Electrical and Warehouse Configuration
The refrigeration and electrical systems are designed for a 380–415 V power supply, matching the industrial electrical requirements of the project.
Electric forklifts are used inside the cold warehouse to support:
- Pallet transportation
- Product stacking
- Loading and unloading
- Warehouse inventory movement
- High-rack storage operations
This configuration improves warehouse handling efficiency while supporting the high-volume operation of the 3,500-ton frozen storage facility.
Key Features of the Jamaica Cold Storage Project
Large Storage Capacity
With approximately 3,500 tons of frozen storage capacity, the project is suitable for large-scale cold chain logistics and food distribution operations.
Low-Temperature Storage
The -18°C to -25°C operating range provides appropriate storage conditions for fish, seafood, meat, and other frozen food products.
